Nyano Nani Babywarmer
The Challenge
In Nepal, newborn hypothermia is one of the leading causes of infant death. Families in rural areas often rely on unsafe methods, such as light bulbs or coal fires, to keep babies warm.
To change this, engineer Mahip KC and the National Innovation Center developed Nyano Nani, a safe, affordable baby warmer made in Nepal for Nepal. Since 2020, Diyalo Foundation has supported this innovation.
What we did
- Improved design, heating systems, and user interface.
- >130 baby warmers delivered to hospitals and health posts.
- Business development support to scale production.
The Outcome
The Nyano Nani 2.0 provides rural health centers with a professional and easy-to-use medical device. By improving heat efficiency and nurse interaction, the project directly helps reduce the high infant mortality rate in Nepal.
